Verse 1
They did not have the One that God had promised He would send
They did not have forgiveness from the throne (Heb. 4:16)
They did not have a Teacher they could follow as a friend (John 15:14-15)
For all they had was hope—and hope alone
Verse 2
They followed down a dusty road and in a crowded room (Mark 2:4)
They followed as the Gentle Healer led (Matt. 4:23, Matt. 9:35)
They followed up a winding road that ended at a tomb (John 19:41-42)
For all they had was hope—and hope was dead (Luke 24:21)
Chorus

Then the answer of the Father is the power of the Cross (I Cor. 1:18)
When darkness falls and hope is dead, do not despair, for then (Matt. 27:45-46, Mark 15:33-34, Luke 23:44-45)
The dawn will bring the day – Hope lives again! (Matt. 28:1, Mark 16:2, Luke 24:1)
Verse 3
They saw Him as a gardener, they saw Him as a man (John 20:15)
They saw Him on Emmaus Road, and then (Luke 24:13)
They saw Him rising from the mount; they heard his last command (Luke 24:51, Acts 1:9, Matt. 28:19-20, Mark 16:15)
They saw Him as their hope—alive again! (I Pet. 1:3)
