II Corinthians 7:5
For, when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on every side; without were fightings, within were fears.
One of the most direct Bible references in this chapter is to verse 5 in Charles Wesley’s “Meeting, After Absence”:
Preserved by power divine
to full salvation here,
again in Jesus’ praise we join,
and in his sight appear.
What troubles have we seen,
what mighty conflicts past,
fightings without, and fears within,
since we assembled last!
