Song License
All of the songs featured on this website are protected under American copyright law. Some of the songs are released for free noncommercial use under the CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license. (Only songs specifically marked as CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 are released under this license.)
The official link above has an easy-to-read summary and the full legal language.
Now in two areas, I’ve chosen to allow a little extra flexibility. The original license states:
NonCommercial — You may not use the material for commercial purposes.
With that said: Feel free to record and release any of our Creative Commons-licensed songs on any album you expect to generate less than $1000 in revenue or as a standalone single that you expect to generate less than $100 in revenue.
The license also says:
NoDerivatives — If you remix, transform, or build upon the material, you may not distribute the modified material.
My intent is that the lyric and melody remain unchanged. Please feel free to change the tempo, key, and instruments used to your heart’s content. Also, changing chords here and there is also fine (for instance, some simplification is necessary for several of the songs to be used congregationally).
All of the other provisions of the license follow the original intent.
With all of that said, if you want to use any of these songs commercially or have questions about lyric or melody changes, please reach out at daniel@danielmount.com and let’s discuss these!
