Verse 1
There is a better Sinai (Heb. 12:18-24)
Where justice met with grace
The only one who kept the Law
Fulfilled it in our place (Matt. 5:17, Luke 24:44, Rom. 10:4)
And so upon Golgotha’s peak (Matt. 27:33, Mark 15:22, John 19:17)
When Jesus breathed His last (John 19:30, Matt. 27:50, Mark 15:37, Luke 23:46)
The covenant we could not keep (Gal. 3:10-11)
Was now complete and past (Heb. 8:13)
Verse 2
There is a better Jordan
Whose waters flow today
Where we are buried with our Lord (Col. 2:12, Rom. 6:4)
And sins are washed away (Acts 22:16, I Cor. 6:11)
This promise in the flowing stream
Where condemnation dies (Rom. 8:1)
Is as our Lord has conquered death
We too with Him shall rise (Rom. 6:4-5, I Cor. 15:20-23)
Verse 3
There is a better Eden
Beyond the reach of sin
Where death and sorrow are unknown (Rev. 21:4, Isa. 25:8, Rev. 7:17)
And cannot enter in
The cherubim that blocked the way
Will sheath their flaming swords (Gen. 3:24, Rev. 22:14)
And we will walk at cool of day (Gen. 3:8)
United with our Lord (Rev. 21:3)
Verse 4
There is a better Zion
Where David’s Son is crowned (Ps. 2:6, Matt. 1:1, Rev. 5:5, Rev. 22:16)
And from His throne a river flows (Rev. 22:1, Ezek. 47:1)
With justice streaming down (Amos 5:24)
We’ll turn our swords to till the earth (Isaiah 2:4, Micah 4:3)
And with one heart and voice
The nations will unite as one (Rev. 22:2, Rev. 21:24, Zeph. 3:9)
To worship and rejoice (Rev. 7:9-10)
