Verse 1
There is a cup of Jesus’ blood
He poured out for our sake (Matt. 26:26, Mark 14:23, Luke 22:20, I Cor. 11:25, I Pet. 1:18-19)
He bids us come, repent, be cleansed (Matt. 9:13, Mark 2:17, Luke 5:32)
And then in faith partake (Luke 22:19, I Cor. 11:24-25, John 6:53-54)
And so we follow in His steps and drink the cup of life (I Pet. 2:21, John 6:53-54, John 4:14)
Verse 2
There is a cup of grief and pain
“Let not my will be done” (Luke 22:42)
He bids us come, despise the shame (Heb. 12:2)
To run the race He won (Heb. 12:1)
And so we follow in His steps and drink the cup of death (I Pet. 2:21, Heb. 2:9, Rom. 6:3-4)

So as we gather in His name
To drink the cup and break the bread
He joins us but He does not drink (Matt. 18:20)
For He is waiting as He said (Matt. 26:29, Mark 14:25, Luke 22:18)
Verse 3
There is a day when He returns (Rev. 19:11)
To take His rightful throne (Rev. 20:4, Rev. 11:15, Dan. 7:14)
He bids us come, He pours the cup
And then He drinks His own (Matt. 26:29, Mark 14:25, Luke 22:18)
And so we follow in His steps and drink the cup of joy (I Pet. 2:21)
