A Grain of Wheat

Lyrics

Verse 1
A grain of wheat will sprout and grow
To bear its seed, and then
The seed will die, but in the morning will
Become alive again (John 12:24, I Cor. 15:36, I Cor. 15:42-44)

Chorus
As evening comes and twilight falls
The promise never fades
The seed that dies will live again (John 12:24, I Cor. 15:36, I Cor. 15:42-44)
At dawning of the day

Verse 2
For now we part until the day
That Jesus comes again
For what is sown in sorrow now (Ps. 126:5-6)
Will rise in glory then (I Cor. 15:42-44, I Thess. 4:16)

Repeat chorus

Song Story

I wrote this song after close friends had a miscarriage. Though that’s what was on my mind, I kept the lyric broad enough to deal with death at other ages.
