Verse 1
By faith in Christ I walk with God, (Gen. 5:24, Gen. 6:9, Mic. 6:8)
With heav’n, my journey’s end, in view; (Ps. 23:6, II Cor. 5:1, Heb. 11:1, Heb. 11:16)
Supported by His staff and rod, (Ps. 23:4)
My road is safe and pleasant too. (Ps. 23:3, Is. 35:8-10)
I travel through a desert wide
Where many round me blindly stray; (Num. 14:33, Matt. 15:14, Isa. 53:6)
But He vouchsafes to be my guide, (Ps. 32:8, Ps. 48:14, Ps. 73:24, Prov. 3:5-6, Isa. 58:11)
And will not let me miss my way. (Isa. 35:8, Ps. 37:23-24)
Verse 2
Though snares and dangers throng my path, (Ps. 140:5)
And earth and hell my course withstand; (Eph. 6:12)
I triumph over all by faith, (I Cor. 10:13, I Jn. 5:4)
Guarded by his Almighty hand. (John 10:28-29)
The wilderness affords no food,
But God for my support prepares; (Ex. 16:4, Ps. 78:19, Deut. 8:2-3)
Provides me every needful good, (Phil. 4:19)
And frees my soul from wants and cares. (Ps. 23:1, Matt. 6:31-33, I Pet. 5:7)
Verse 3
With him sweet converse I maintain,
Great as he is I dare be free;
I tell him all my grief and pain, (Ps. 62:8)
And he reveals his love to me.
I pity all that worldlings talk
Of pleasures that will quickly end; (I Jn. 2:15-17)
Be this my choice, O Lord, to walk
With thee, my Guide, my Guard, my Friend. (Ps. 16:11, John 15:14-15)
