Verse 1
Day of judgment! Day of wonders!
Hark! the trumpet’s awful sound, (Matt. 24:31, I Cor. 15:52, I Thess. 4:16)
Louder than a thousand thunders,
Shakes the vast creation round! (Heb. 12:26, Rev. 16:18)
How the summons wilt the sinner’s heart confound!
Verse 2
At His call the dead awaken, (John 5:28, I Cor. 15:52, I Thess. 4:16)
Rise to life from earth and sea; (Rev. 20:13)
All the powers of nature shaken (Heb. 12:26, Matt. 24:29-31, II Pet. 3:10, Isa. 2:19-21)
By His look, prepare to flee. (Rev. 20:11)
Careless sinner, what will then become of thee?
Verse 3
Satan, who now tries to please you,
Lest you timely warning take,
When that word is past, will seize you,
Plunge you in the burning lake: (Rev. 20:10, Rev. 20:15, Matt. 25:41, Rev. 21:8)
Think, poor sinner, thy eternal all’s at stake.
Verse 4
But to those who have confessèd, (Rom. 10:9, Matt. 10:32, Luke 12:8)
Loved and served the Lord below,
He will say, “Come near, ye blessèd,
See the kingdom I bestow; (Matt. 25:34, II Pet. 1:11)
You forever shall My love and glory know.” (John 17:24, Rom. 8:17)
Verse 5
See the Judge, our nature wearing, (Phil. 2:7, Heb. 2:14, Heb. 2:17)
Clothed in majesty divine! (Matt. 25:31)
You who long for His appearing (Tit. 2:13, II Pet. 3:12, Heb. 9:28, II Tim. 4:8)
Then shall say, “This God is mine!”
Gracious Savior, own me in that day for Thine!
