From Depths of Woe

Lyrics

Verse 1
From depths of woe I cry to Thee (Ps. 130:1)
Lord Hear me I implore Thee (Ps. 130:2)
Bend down thy gracious ear to me (Ps. 130:2)
My prayer let come before Thee (Ps. 130:2)
If Thou rememberest each misdeed (Ps. 130:3)
If each should have its rightful meed
Who may abide Thy presence (Ps. 130:3, Mal. 3:2)

Verse 2
Thy love and grace alone avail (Ps. 130:4)
To blot out my transgressions (Ps. 32:1, Ps. 51:1-2, Isa. 43:25, Eph. 2:8-9)
The best and holiest deeds must fail (Rom. 11:6)
To break sin’s dread oppression
Before Thee none can boasting stand (Rom. 3:20, Rom. 3:27)
But all must fear Thy strict demand (Ps. 130:4)
And live alone by mercy

Verse 3
Therefore my hope is in the Lord (Ps. 130:5)
And not in mine own merit
It rests upon His faithful Word (Ps. 130:5)
To them of contrite spirit (Ps. 34:18, Isa. 57:15)
That He is merciful and just (Ps. 130:7)
This is my comfort and my trust
His help I wait with patience (Ps. 130:5-6)

Verse 4
And though it tarry till the night (Ps. 130:6)
And till the morning waken (Ps. 130:6)
My heart shall never doubt His might
Nor count itself forsaken
Do thus, O ye of Israel’s seed (Ps. 130:8)
Ye of the Spirit born indeed
Wait for Your God’s appearing (Ps. 130:5-6, Isa. 25:9)

Verse 5
Though great our sins and sore our woes
His grace much more aboundeth (Ps. 130:7, Rom. 5:20)
His helping love no limit knows
Our utmost need it soundeth
Our shepherd good and true is He (John 10:11, Ezek. 34:11-16)
Who will at last His Israel free (Ps. 130:8)
From all their sin and sorrow (Ps. 130:8)
