Verse 1
Sons of God by blest adoption (Rom. 8:15, Gal. 4:5, Eph. 1:5)
View the dead with steady eyes
What is sown thus in corruption
Shall in incorruption rise (I Cor. 15:42, I Cor. 15:53)
What is sown in death’s dishonor (I Cor. 15:43)
Shall revive to glory’s light
What is sown in this weak manner
Shall be raised in matchless might
Verse 2
Earthly cavern, to thy keeping
We commit our brother’s dust (Gen. 3:19, Job 34:15, Ps. 104:29, Ecc. 3:20, Ecc. 12:7)
Keep it safely, softly sleeping
Till our Lord demand thy trust (John 5:28-29)
Sweetly sleep, dear saint, in Jesus (John 11:11, I Cor. 15:18, I Thess. 4:14)
Thou, with us, shalt wake from death (I Thess. 4:16-17, Dan. 12:2)
Hold he cannot, tho’ he seize us (I Cor. 15:54, Acts 2:24)
We his pow’r defy by faith (I Cor. 15:55)
Verse 3
Jesus, Thy rich consolation
To Thy mourning people send (I Thess. 4:13)
May we all, with faith and patience (Heb. 6:12)
Wait for our approaching end
Keep from courage vain or vaunted
For our change our hearts prepare
Give us confidence, undaunted
Cheerful hope, and Godly fear (Rom. 12:12, Heb. 12:28, Heb. 5:7, Heb. 11:7)
